There are no exact figures on the number of HFJs in Singapore, industry estimates that there are close to 350~400 clubs.
Clubs can be very small catering to less than 20 customers or large clubs that can handle more than 100 customers.
But in reality, an average size of 30~40 seating capacity is enough.
Think of a piano lounge, but remove the piano and put in a small stage, a musician controlling the audio equipment, lighting and stage devices.
The basic premise is simple, singers will perform on stage, and the audience in appreciation will provide gratuities in terms of flowers.
The singers are recruited mainly from china, some of them are university graduates, but most of the singers cannot speak english, only chinese.
The clientele of the clubs are mainly, Singaporeans in their late 30s and above, the average age is closer to 45-50 and above.
Typically, each singer will go on stage in turn to sing a song, throughout the night.
Then past midnight, all the singers will be on stage together, and each of them will sing in turn.
This is the PPC or 排排场 and the main highlight of each evening.
A typical customer going to such a club with a few friends might spend a few hundred dollars, and that would be on a tight budget.
Typically, 100-200 for flowers for the singers, 100 for the beer, even a cup of tea might cost $10.00
So what makes it one of the most vibrant night scene in Singapore

ReplyDeleteWell, I think you are one of the victims that steps into the trap set by the boss of these flower joint. Let me explain to you how those joint works. I know you know the general things but I am going to tell you something u may not know.
ReplyDeleteI have a friend who run a flower hanging joint, he ever ask me to join them and explained to me how the whole system work, every 3 month they will import a group of freshly innocent girls from China. When these girls arrived, the bosses (well there are 2 of them) will pick the girls they want and they will act like a customer. They have 2 objectives, 1) To cook up the girls hanging price so to increase the income, 2) To have the freshly girl by themselves first. They will not tell the girls their true identity but instead will try to please the girl that they have put in a lot of money for her, later part they will force the girls to go to bed with them, if not, they will not support her anymore. Usually the girl will fall for it because she wants to hold on to a big fish without knowing in actual fact he is one of the boss. When these girls just arrived in Singapore, they will get only half of the flower hanging money and still have to deduct this and that. Usually at the range of total hanging amount of $5,000, they will only get back about $1,500 and still have to pay their room rental and daily expenses. So you can see these so call bosses in actual fact only pay out about a $1,000 and he enjoys unlimited services from the innocent girl. Customer like you and some out there will fork out so much of money and only get to have the passed down from the boss! It's actually a trap for the customer and the girls, when you throw money in these joints, you are actually feeding the boss and let him have a good time with the freshly import girls. Feel sad for those guys that step into this trap and those girls that becoming a toy for the boss. Imagine they are importing girls every 3 months and how many girls are destroyed in their hand, and mind you, some are still virgin!
It sound so attractive but I have a human heart that I can feel in my chest and I can’t do these kind of evil thing, I rejected their invitation.
